G'day all,

I was wondering if anyone could shed some illumination on the pros/cons and quality levels of the various other metal combat simulators out there?  Within the SCA we are limited to a narrow cross section of blade/weapon types - I was wondering if anyone has experience with the Swordcrafts Aluminum wasters?  Or perhaps the Hanwei practical Hand a Halfs or Mortuary/Basket hilts?

What are people using to learn Silver with?  What about longsword?

Thanks in advance.

Right now im using a couple different simulators. For assaulti and progression practice I like hanweis practical single-hand sword, for light sparring at duello (which will eventually be full speed once i get the right armor) I switch over to the mortuary.

Longsword, for drilling the rebated angus trim practice sword. When I start sparring with longsword i will prolly switch over to the hanwei practical hand and a half.

Hanwei has a new "practical" longsword available now as well. The "federschwert". Personally I am not a big fan of this style, though others in the WMA community are.

Darkwood and MK Armory also offer longsword simulators that are not too bad.

I've been using the hanwei practical hand and a half for longsword work.  I'm told the hilt and blade are both a little short for real longsword work, but it works well for me - I don't need to accelerate the blade so a heavy will take the shot after 4 inches of motion

OK, fine, I'm unapproachable. Keep your distance or I'll pez you.

For longsword I use aluminum manufactured by Dave Baker over at Hollywood Combat Center.  For aluminum he is the best on the market in my opinion.   Academia Duellatoria also has prototypes being made by Alchem for longsword spring steel practice blades.... he has them up on his web page now as available.... though we are still awaiting our production run order.

The new style of Practical Longsword from Hanwei is pretty nice. I am spolied a bit, of course, and use an ATrim Sparring Longsword.
