04/02/2006 12:56 PM Alert

Sunday April 9th – 12pm to 5pm

Old World Martial Arts will be offering a special half day workshop on the Renaissance sword and shield, led by Cheryl Glover and Richard Thomas.  Workshop content is based on the teachings of the historical Bardi laceType w:st="on">schoollaceType> of laceName w:st="on">Northern ItalylaceName> and its master's; Achille Marozzo (published 1536), Antonio Mancioliono (published 1531), and Dall'Aggochie (published 1575).

Although the cut and thrust weapon of these masters was often historically referred to as a rapier, it is much heavier and shorter than the sword we often connect with the somewhat lighter, longer and more thrust disposed 17th century rapier.  The earlier Bardi system is more cutting dominant and in combination with the shield creates a
devastating and effective form of combat in the duel and on the battle field.

During this comprehensive 5 hour workshop you will learn the basics of posture, movement, attack and defense as well as the first in a series of assalti (sequences of techniques to be used in friendly matches), as well as solo-forms designed to help you perfect the elements of the style.

The workshop is open to adults and teens of all skill levels and experience.  It is ideal for avid martial artists, both western and eastern, stunt people, actors, and anyone interested in history and swordplay.  Equipment is available for rent or purchase, please contact us in advance.
