Kent, WA – Dueling/Martial Arts Fitness Workshop
Saturday May 27th from 11am to 6pm, Old World Martial Arts, South King County’s exclusive school of Historical European Swordsmanship, will be hosting a special workshop for swordsmanship enthusiasts, on the body mechanics and fitness of historical swordplay and martial arts.
Participants will learn how to wield live steel swords with the grace, finesse, and power of a renaissance duelist, and gain deeper understanding of human kinetics, and how to properly train for any martial art. The event will complete with a live cutting exercise where participants will use sharpened swords to cut apart a piece of meat as well as other objects that simulate a real human opponent.
"You don’t truly understand sword fighting until you experience the deadliness of a sword" says Justin Greywolf, Director and Co-Owner of the Kent based Old World Martial Arts. "It makes the techniques of Swordplay much easier to learn when you realize how little force it takes to kill someone, and how much you don’t want to be hit."
Old World Martial Arts, which started in 2004 as a duelists social club and has grown to become one of the largest schools of European Martial Arts in North America, focuses on teaching its students how to be real duelists. "I hope none of my students ever have to use these skills in a life and death situation" says Greywolf, who believes that the emphasis on "live" dueling helps remind his students that they are practicing a martial art and not a sport.
Participants expected to attend this workshop average an age spac of 14 to 60 and come from diverse backgrounds. Costs for this offering are $45 for members, $55 for non members. Special education discounts are available for both students and staff, with school ID.
