It meets the requirements for rigid materials, and it should flex with blows.
Since the armorer participates in ARMA, my suggestion is to ask him the average amount of force is behind the strikes he receives. I’m betting that is as hard, or harder, than what happens on the SCA C&T field.
As for design, I agree with Tora, it looks pretty good. If it is as structurally sound as it looks, I would allow it here in the West. You might want to send an e-mail directly to your KRM to get his opinion.
