A while back I was looking for some instruction in Saviolo and it took a fair bit of time to track down folks practicing the style and/or qualified to teach it. It was then that I realized that as far as I know there was no central place discussing which instructors were teaching particular styles and who was studying them.
Perhaps I'm the only one who feels this way but I think it would be a valuable resource for people to have a registry of this kind of information. What I'm proposing is that folks post replies to this thread regarding what they are studying and what they feel comfortable teaching. That way, folks know that if they need a Capo Ferro guru they just have to contact XXXX person, or for Marozzo just contact YYYY etc.

Kristophe a great idea, so let me be the first to join in.
I am learning Capo Ferro from Don Propsere and Academie Duello. Plus I attend any workshop I can get to on other styles that AD puts on.
I live in Appledore (Osoyoos/Oliver) but am always willing to travel for those interested. My skill level I will say is only beginner or the basics but that is because I feel there is a lifetime of skill to master. |

I teach and practice Saviolo
I teach and practice Morozzo's single sword, sword and buckler, longsword, and dagger work. Morozzo curriculum is expanding.
I also teach and practice Thibault and spanish fencing theory.

If we're preserving this for posterity then I should mention that I study Saviolo with the Academia della Spada in Seattle. The Academy also has a good-sized English backsword class and a small Fiore study group.
On the other hand, I've been emphasizing Destreza almost entirely since I came back from rapier camp this year, so I may have to turn in my Saviolist membership card soon. All that "lunging around corners" you know....

We're currently covering Fabris (er, Capo Ferro, I mean, oh never mind) at the Lionsgate practice in New West. Once we get the cut and thrust rules passed we'll be starting Digrasse (woo hoo!).

I do Saviolo too!
Kristoph, I'm going to try and finish part one of my practice thing, and when I do, I'll send you a copy. I also want to go forward with a guild type structure, and I'll contact you on that. |

William, if you have something to say you really should just try saying it--or better yet, if you have something to demonstrate, then let's get together and you can demonstrate it. Until then, do try and leave the subtlety spears on the porch, as directness is a much more honorable pursuit.

I didn't mean to be obtuse here, but I don't know a way of linking directly to a page in a PDF. You're right that some folks may not have understood. My apologies for that. The jab I was making is over this section in your manual...
There are a few styles out there, The Spanish in particular, that would have you lunge indirectly at your opponent, taking an attack line that turns your body from a direct line of that of your opponent. It resembes something akin to the position you would find yourself in if you were trying to lunge around a corner. The idea, of course, is to present a threat without exposing the body.
It doesn't work.
(Tora Taka, Way of the Tiger, p.28)
Since I was discussing my interest in destreza, it seemed topical. If you have other questions or complaints, I'd suggest a new thread in the pub so as to avoid hijacking this one further. |

OWMA teaches fundamental concepts of Italian Rapier. Further study is available for Capo Ferro, Fabris or Giganti - depending on which class night is attended.
I started with Capo Ferro some years in the past when Jherek Swanger was first working through his translation. While I am currently reviewing this work again, My personal preference is for Giganti. His first book, and not the second, of course... |
