My elevation to the OWS this weekend was a happy / sad occasion and it will take me many months to sort out all the sensations of those few short moments.  I was thrilled to be recognized, thrilled to be in the presence of so many close friends and family, and little sad that some of my dear friends and mentors could not be present.
Being elevated in a court held within my household was an experience that will remain with me my entire life.  I was awed by the pride and joy my family expressed and humbled by the tremendous trust and respect my family has for me that goes hand in hand with pride and joy.
The OWS carries the responsibility to allways be, "ON", and yet it is given to the recipient in the knowledge that that person is already always, "ON".  The recipient has been entrusted, is trusted, to be the embodiment of all that is good in the SCA, Honor, Chivalry, Passion, Commitment, Integrity, Pride, Service, and unique to the Order of White Scarf, mastery of the Rapier Sword Form.
Some of these attributes come from the heart, some are learned, all are demonstrated moment by moment with every word and deed.  It is a challenge to live by this code.  As a kind friend wryly put it to me, "It makes one aware of ones decorum."
I am up for this challenge and, I know it can not be taken on alone.
I look to all of you in turn, and en mass, for your continued and valued friendship and mentorship as I take this next step.
Yours in Service and respect,
Richard Thomas, OWS

Draven--We're calling him Don Sweetpea.  No, really he answers to it!!

Richard, I am very happy for you, and I think that you will set a great example for all of us.  You've always demonstrated great courtesy, level-headedness, and apropos, and you a very picture of a gentleman.

Ok, so I'm biased toward one of my very oldest friends in this community--oh, there's no way to say that very nicely!

Off to drink more coffee....

*hugs and warm fuzzies*

Well said Richard. The reception at the Carn encampment was overwhelming to me too. And I was just a witness.

It is very well deserved.
